Al - Bayaan Academy

At Urban Empire Agency, we are honoured to have played a central role in the development of a truly inspiring project – the transformation of a space at 178 Goswell Road, Angel, London EC1V 7DT into a vibrant new mosque and community hub for Al-Bayaan Academy.

This project was far more than a structural transformation. It was about vision, purpose, and faith coming together to serve the heart of the community.

A Project Rooted in Community Spirit

The story behind this mosque is both powerful and heartfelt. It began with a devoted parent, deeply moved by the work Al-Bayaan had done in Camden – particularly its emphasis on community engagement, spiritual growth, and accessible Islamic education. Inspired by this impact, the parent supported the Academy’s expansion into Angel, a neighbourhood that until now lacked a dedicated Islamic learning centre.

This generous act facilitated the rental of a new space right in the centre of Angel – a perfect location to establish a new home for community connection and religious education.

Urban Empire’s Role in Bringing the Vision to Life

As the architectural planning department behind this project, Urban Empire Agency was entrusted with a vital responsibility: to design and guide the transformation of this property into a fully functional, accessible, and welcoming Islamic centre and mosque.

Our work included:

Strategic planning and consultation with Al-Bayaan to understand the centre’s vision, values, and functional needs.

Architectural design and layout tailored to reflect the values of inclusivity, spirituality, and education.

Integration of mosque-specific elements, including dedicated prayer spaces, ablution areas (wudu), and flexible learning environments for both adults and children.

Regulatory and planning submissions to ensure full compliance with local authority requirements in Islington, while maintaining cultural sensitivity in design.

We designed the space not just for utility, but for experience – a centre that encourages peace, connection, and growth the moment one steps inside.

More Than a Mosque

What makes this project special is that it goes beyond bricks and mortar. The new Al-Bayaan centre is now a beacon of hope, offering:

Daily and Jumu’ah prayers

Islamic education programs for children and adults

Youth and community engagement initiatives

Safe spaces for reflection, learning, and support

It’s a place where people from all walks of life can gather – to learn, to connect, and to grow in faith and understanding.
